Our Mission
Science communication is critical to fight misinformation and make science accessible to those that did not undergo a formal science education. Many scientists are thrilled to talk about their research and give back to the community; we aim to facilitate this journey. Orders of Magnitude commits to turn scientists into communicators by providing a platform, tools, workshops and plenty of encouragement, hoping that our support ripples through the scientific community leading to an exponential creation of science communicators.
Consequently, we also aim to publicly showcase our scientists’ research and their progress in content creation. From the smallest atoms to the confines of the cosmos, we provide people with different forms of scientific content including podcasts, blog posts, videos and more!
Our History
Orders of Magnitude began as a science communication podcast. Soon after the start of the project, Philippe Carle and Matheus Schultz knew that more had to be done. If science was to be made accessible to everyone, it should be available in many different forms and styles. As Orders of Magnitude expanded, they realized many scientists are motivated to share their research but lack the framework and tools to do so.
To tackle the root of the issue, Orders of Magnitude shifted its focus to train researchers in science communication, with the goal of boosting SciComm beyond our platform. Currently, OOM is a not-for-profit SciComm initiative that provides members with the tools and skills to produce a diverse range of content hosted on OOM platforms. OOM also encourages members to start their independent SciComm projects!
